History

North American Inclusion Month (NAIM) has a story that’s both recent and impactful. This special month, rooted in the value of inclusion for all, especially for people with disabilities, was started by Yachad/The National Jewish Council for Disabilities.

Established in 2011, goal for this event was clear from the start: to spread awareness and encourage actions that make our communities more welcoming for everyone.

The foundation of NAIM was inspired by the broader movement towards recognizing and addressing the needs of individuals with disabilities.

This initiative underlines the importance of breaking down barriers and ensuring that people with disabilities have equal opportunities in education, employment, and other areas of life. By dedicating this month to these efforts, it provides a focused time to celebrate progress and push for further advancements.

Since its inception, NAIM has grown in scope and impact, reaching across North America to bring attention to the importance of inclusion. Schools, workplaces, and various organizations participate in activities designed to promote understanding and acceptance.

It’s a time when stories are shared, challenges are highlighted, and successes are celebrated. Through workshops, events, and campaigns, North American Inclusion Month encourages everyone to take part in creating a more inclusive society.

This history isn’t just about marking dates on a calendar; it’s about ongoing efforts to ensure that everyone, regardless of their abilities, feels valued and included.
