National Food Truck Day
National Food Truck Day is a lively tribute to mobile eateries and the passionate entrepreneurs behind them. It rolls around on the last Friday in June, inviting people to step out and enjoy meals from these wheeled kitchens.
Celebrate mobile food entrepreneurship and drive foot traffic to food trucks by positioning the day as a summer tradition for discovering local flavors and supporting small vendors.
- Food truck tour challenge: map out 3-5 trucks in your area and share your tasting journey on social media
- Spotlight local food truck owners and their origin stories—humanize the small business hustle
- Partner with food trucks to offer exclusive menu items or discounts on National Food Truck Day
- Host or promote a food truck festival in your community with live music and games
National Food Truck Day began in 2016. The group behind it, Roaming Hunger, wanted to support mobile food vendors across the country. They encouraged people to eat at food trucks and help small businesses grow.
Before that, in 2014, Texas radio host Rick McNeely started a similar idea. He wanted to show love for local trucks in his area.
A few years later, he teamed up with Roaming Hunger. Together, they picked the last Friday of June for the big celebration.
The name started out longer—“National Eat at a Food Truck Day.” It changed later to keep things simple and catchy. As more trucks joined in, the event became a popular summer tradition in many cities.
Street food fans now mark the day by eating outdoors and trying new flavors. Many trucks offer deals or bring out new menu items. Social media also plays a big role, helping spread the word fast.
Each year, more people take part. What began as a small idea has grown into a national event that lifts up local chefs.
