History

National Construction Appreciation Week got its start in 2018 through the efforts of the I Build America team, with the hopes of showering some love and honoring the men and women who work in the field of construction.

I Build America is a national movement, that was founded in 2016. This campaign is dedicated to building pride within the construction industry, raising awareness about the important role that construction workers play, and improving communication to recruit the next generation of workers in this field.

How to celebrate

Thank a Construction Worker

Building things is a difficult – and often messy – kind of work! From digging basements to building scaffolding, from mixing concrete to assisting craftsmen, construction workers have all sorts of responsibilities that are included within their roles. It’s a job that deserves a bit of recognition, and that’s what National Construction Appreciation Week is all about. So spend time saying thank you to a friend or family member in construction. Send a card, buy them a cup of coffee or give them a heartfelt hug of thanks.

Suprise Construction Workers with Coffee or Treats

There’s nothing like a home baked pastry along with a cup of coffee or a glass of lemonade to keep a construction worker going throughout the day! Those who have a construction site near their workplace or home can make a special effort to show support in celebration of National Construction Appreciation Day.

Teach Kids About Construction

A great way to honor the profession of construction workers might be for parents or teachers to build into the theme in celebration of National Construction Appreciation Day. Considering that some of these kids could have excellent careers in the industry, take some time to teach some lessons or watch some shows (Bob the Builder or Handy Manny, anyone?) that are targeted toward talking about construction. Other events that are celebrated by Days of the Year about this one include Women In Construction Week which takes place in early March and National Scaffolding Week in early October.
