On 15 August 2026, the beach right in front of Albertplein will transform into a colourful floral paradise. This cheerful festival celebrates a unique Flemish tradition: the creation and sale of paper beach flowers. Dozens of children build their own beach flower shops in the sand and showcase their colourful creations to the public, competing for titles such as Belgian Champion Beach Flower Maker, with prizes for the most beautiful flower and the most original beach shop. The tradition of paper beach flowers dates back to the interwar period and is now recognised as intangible cultural heritage of Flanders.
