World Health Esteem Month is all about seeing yourself through a kinder lens. It’s a time to focus on your feelings rather than your appearance.

  • Share member stories celebrating non-scale victories and mental health wins
  • Create guided meditation or joy-movement content that reframes exercise as mood-boosting, not punishment
  • Host a 'Self-Compassion Challenge' encouraging followers to post what they're proud of (fitness-related or not)
  • Partner with mental-health creators to normalize rest days and realistic wellness habits

History

World Health Esteem Month began in January 2023. Beachbody, a health and wellness company, introduced it to bring attention to self-respect and emotional wellness during health journeys.

Instead of focusing on weight loss or appearance, the company wanted people to feel proud of their efforts, no matter how small. The goal was to help shift the public conversation—from strict fitness goals to a deeper sense of self-worth and care.

Carl Daikeler, Beachbody’s CEO, led the effort. He saw how often people felt discouraged by unrealistic health expectations.

He wanted to create something that encouraged self-compassion and realistic goals. The idea was to support people in building habits they could actually stick with—without shame or pressure.

Since then, World Health Esteem Month has grown. More people have joined the movement, celebrating both their minds and bodies. It reminds individuals that true health includes mental peace and physical balance.

You don’t need to be perfect to be healthy. You just need to treat yourself with kindness and try what feels right for your body. That message continues to spread each year, helping people feel more confident, calm, and connected to their personal wellness paths.

How to celebrate

Move in Ways That Feel Good

Choose activities that bring joy and energy. Dancing in your living room, walking in the park, or trying a new fitness class can uplift your mood. Regular movement supports both body and mind.

Reflect on Personal Strengths

Take time to acknowledge your abilities and achievements. Writing down what you’re proud of can boost confidence. Recognizing your strengths helps build a positive self-image.

Practice Self-Compassion

Be gentle with yourself during challenging times. Accepting imperfections and understanding that everyone has flaws fosters self-acceptance. This approach can enhance overall well-being.

Prioritize Rest and Relaxation

Ensure you’re getting enough sleep and taking breaks when needed. Engaging in relaxing activities like reading or meditation can reduce stress. Rest is essential for maintaining health and balance.

Connect with Others

Spending time with friends or family can provide emotional support. Sharing experiences and laughter strengthens relationships. Social connections contribute to a sense of belonging and happiness.
