The Vogelenmarkt (Vogeltjesmarkt) concentrates around the Oude Vaartplaats and is now primarily a tourist market where birds and rodents make up only a small part of the total offering. Transformed into a tourist attraction, thousands of mainly Dutch and Belgian visitors come to the Theatre Quarter every Sunday to walk among hundreds of stalls. As of January 1st, 2026, the sale of animals at weekly markets has been banned, marking the end of a centuries-old tradition.
- Merchandise includes clothing, textiles, accessories, antiques, brocante and second-hand goods alongside food stalls.
- Abundant horeca options: bars and restaurants with terraces at Oudevaartplaats and Graanbeurs, plus food stalls on the market itself.
- Located just a ten-minute walk from Keyserlei and Antwerp's historic centre with dozens of additional restaurants and bars.
- Market operates every Sunday, including holidays such as Easter, Pentecost and Christmas.
- Approximately one hundred thousand visitors attend weekly, making it the largest market in the region.
- Free street parking in the Theatre Quarter on Sundays
- paid parking in nearby garages.
