The Tour Sainte-Gertrude celebrates its 750th edition in 2026, alongside the 1400th anniversary of Sainte-Gertrude's birth and the 980th anniversary of the Collégiale's consecration. Proclaimed a masterpiece of oral and intangible heritage of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation since 2004 , this historic religious and folk procession honours the city's patron saint with a 14–17 km route through Nivelles' countryside. Three major events that open a year of rare patrimonial, cultural and spiritual significance.
- 3-day reliquary opening (13–15 Feb): Exceptional exposure of relics of Sainte-Gertrude, her parents Sainte-Itte and Pépin, and Sainte-Wulfetrude, with continuous ostension day and night.
- Three processional floats at the October Solemn Return: the reliquary of Gertrude plus guest chariots from Bousval (Saint-Barthélemy) and Tubize (Sainte-Renelde).
- Video mapping light show (16–24 Oct): 16+ performances, ~10,000 spectators inside the Collégiale, celebrating its 980th anniversary.
- Morning tour (6:45 a.m. start) and solemn evening "Rentrée" (3:30 p.m. departure) on 4 October, 14–17 km walk through countryside with period-costume cortège, giants, clergy and local youth groups.
- Pilgrims acquire hazel sticks (hazelwood) that ward off rodents, decorated in the abbey colours (blue-white-red, now Nivelles' civic colours).
- Closing symphony concert: Handel's "Messiah" in November at the Collégiale.
