History

The Tolma Festival in Armenia began in 2011 and was initiated by Sedrak Mamulyan, head of the “Development and Preservation of Armenian Culinary Traditions” organization.

His goal was to celebrate Armenian cuisine, especially the beloved dish tolma, and to promote its cultural significance. The festival has grown in popularity over the years and is held annually in different regions of Armenia.

It brings together cooks from across the country to prepare various types of tolma, showcasing this traditional dish in unique and creative ways

The event started small but quickly gained traction. It aims to preserve Armenian culinary traditions while refuting claims that tolma has non-Armenian origins.

Each year, the festival hosts cooking competitions where participants compete in categories like best taste, best decoration, and most innovative idea. The event features around 60 different types of tolma, some of which even locals haven’t tried before.

Visitors not only enjoy delicious food but also immerse themselves in Armenian culture through music and dance performances.

The festival creates a vibrant atmosphere where people of all ages gather to celebrate their shared heritage. It has become a beloved event, attracting both locals and tourists eager to experience authentic Armenian flavors and hospitality.

For those planning to visit, the festival usually takes place between May and June. Each year it moves to a different location, providing an excellent opportunity to explore various parts of Armenia while enjoying the festivities.

It’s an event not to be missed for anyone interested in experiencing the true essence of Armenian culture.
