Social Media Giving Day
Making meaningful impacts online, spreading kindness, and supporting causes through digital platforms, connecting hearts globally.
Leverage July's Social Media Giving Day to drive donation conversions and brand affinity by partnering with nonprofits and enabling frictionless giving through social platforms.
- Partner with micro-influencers to spotlight a cause and drive peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns
- Create shareable donation graphics and CTAs that turn social followers into monthly donors
- Host a 24-hour social media giving challenge with matching donations to amplify reach and urgency
- Feature customer/employee giving stories to humanize impact and inspire workplace giving programs
The first Social Media Giving Day got its start in 2013 when it was established through the efforts of a man named Chris Sommers. Using technology on givver.com, Sommers was a pioneer in this idea of providing simple opportunities to make donations to deserving non-profit organizations. While that specific technology is no longer available, this important day still lives on.
For more than a decade, Social Media Giving Day has been celebrated annually with the purpose of raising financial support and funding for various charitable organizations that help people in need.
The target audience for this day is anyone who uses social media! That means Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok or any other platform. And since it is estimated that there are somewhere close to 5 billion social media users all over the world, that’s a significant number of people who can be reached!
Many other charitable events are celebrated all throughout the year that are similar to Social Media Giving Day, including some of these: the National Day of Giving, near the end of the year; the American Red Cross Giving Day, taking place in March; or the International Day of Charity in September.
Make a Donation on Social Media
Whether casual users who are online once a month to see pictures of their grandkids or social media influencers who make a living through these platforms, everyone is encouraged to make a difference in the life of a person who needs it by making a charitable donation in celebration of Social Media Giving Day. Remember that donations of any size can be very helpful because, when everyone bands together even in small ways, it can make a huge difference.
Raise Awareness About a Special Cause
Those who have a specific charity that is dear to their hearts might want to make a special post that can connect others to make a donation. Whether it is an organization that supports mental health care for teens, a group that is doing research to cure a disease, or a charity that fights for and takes care of needy animals, Social Media Giving Day is a great time to feature a photo and link to the charity of choice and encourage others to respond to their needs.
