The Tour of Flanders, known as De Ronde or Vlaanderens Mooiste (Flanders' Finest), is Belgium's biggest annual bike race and a key point of the cycling calendar . This ferociously difficult race combines cobbles and hills and is the second Monument of the season, first held in 1913 . Largely played out in the Flemish Ardennes (Vlaamse Ardennen), the race has developed a reputation as a favourite for both spectators and riders alike, with an atmosphere that accompanies the race as it winds through crowded country lanes and rowdy beer tents .
