Every last Thursday of August, the three guild giants – Indiaan, Mars, and Goliath – dance through the city center, starring in their own procession, Katuit. The three Gildereuzen Indiaan, Mars and Goliath dance through the streets with costumed actors, floats, modern animation and special effects. In 2005, the giants and Katuit were added to the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Dendermonde Giant Procession has been among the most important folkloric events in Flanders for several decades.
