On Sundays 27 September and 4 October 2026, the Ommegang returns to Lier's streets. This tradition dates back centuries and originated as a procession around the relics of the city's patron saint Sint-Gummarus. The entire Lierse giant train will participate in the Ommegang. It is now primarily a historical event with thousands of extras, strong giant carriers, horses, shepherds with their sheep, musical groups, and archers' guilds. [ "Historic Lierse giant train: centuries-old mythical creatures including the Camel (1513), Elephant (1466), and Ros Beiaard (1417)", "Theatrical tableaux re-enacting the 1496 marriage of Philip the Fair and Joanna of Castile in Lier", "Medieval floats: Leeuw met maagdenberg, Hellewagen, Schip van 's Lands Welvaren, and some twenty hobby horses", "Interactive street experience: thousands of costumed participants, musicians, guilds, and shepherds with sheep", "Free public access—open to all ages, standing room along the procession route through the city" ]
