The North Dakota Winter Show began in 1937 in Valley City. Local businessman Herman Stern, who played a key role, wanted to boost the economy and draw visitors to the area.
Stern, along with other community leaders, organized the first show to showcase agricultural advancements and celebrate the region’s farming heritage.
Initially, the event lasted ten days, but organizers shortened it to six days in 2004 while keeping all activities. Each year, the show attracts around 30,000 attendees, highlighting its growing popularity. It remains the longest-running agricultural event in North Dakota.
