History

National Tackle Kids Cancer Day began in 2017 as a powerful response to a heartbreaking reality—children fighting cancer need more support.

The day was created by the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation to bring attention to the urgent need for better treatments and more research.

It grew out of the Tackle Kids Cancer program, which started in 2015 through Hackensack Meridian Health.

This program teamed up with the New York Giants to build awareness, raise funds, and offer hope to families facing childhood cancer. The goal was clear: give every child a fighting chance by supporting science and care.

One of the biggest champions of the cause has been NFL quarterback Eli Manning. He became the face of the campaign and inspired people far beyond the football field. His passion helped bring the message into homes and hearts all across the country.

Communities started getting involved—schools, businesses, and sports fans all joined the effort. Every year, more people step up to support the cause, turning this day into something greater than anyone expected.

National Tackle Kids Cancer Day isn’t just a date on the calendar—it’s a reminder of what can happen when people come together for something that truly matters.

How to celebrate

Organize a Community Fundraiser

Bring your neighborhood together by hosting a local event. Activities like bake sales, charity runs, or silent auctions can effectively raise funds for pediatric cancer research. Engaging the community fosters unity and amplifies the cause’s reach.
