National Robotics Week
National Robotics Week is a vibrant celebration of robots and the people who build them. It invites everyone—from young students to curious grown-ups—to explore how robots shape our world.
Position your brand as a STEM enabler by hosting hands-on robotics workshops, virtual tours, or coding challenges during National Robotics Week to inspire the next generation of engineers and drive engagement with education-focused and tech-savvy audiences.
- Host a 'Build & Code' workshop at your retail location or partner with local schools to introduce robotics platforms
- Create a virtual robot factory tour or behind-the-scenes content showing how your products/services use automation
- Launch a #NationalRoboticsWeek social media challenge encouraging users to share DIY robot builds or coding projects
- Sponsor a robot dance or obstacle-course competition for families and students to drive foot traffic and brand awareness
National Robotics Week began in 2010 after a group of scientists, engineers, and educators teamed up to promote robotics in the United States.
In 2009, over 140 experts worked on a national robotics plan and asked the U.S. House of Representatives to support their idea.
Their goal was to raise awareness, get more students interested in science, and show how robots help in everyday life. That effort led to a House resolution that officially recognized one week in April for robotics.
The first celebration took place later that year, with around 50 events across the country. Museums, schools, labs, and tech companies opened their doors to the public.
People of all ages got the chance to see robots in action, learn from experts, and even try coding for the first time.
Each year, the week kept growing. By 2011, it reached over 20 states and U.S. territories. Just a few years later, all 50 states joined in with more than 300 activities.
Today, iRobot helps organize the week, working with others to keep it fresh and fun.
National Robotics Week continues to bring people together to learn, explore, and imagine what robots can do next.
Bring Robots to Life
Partner with local groups, schools, or libraries to host sessions where folks can build or program robots together. That puts robotics into real hands, not just in books. This idea comes from the official campaign, which invites people to “build, code, show off or talk about robots” to inspire others.
Explore Virtual Robot Tours
Take a digital trip to see robots at work in factories or outer space. For example, users can check out Toyota’s robots in action or NASA’s Mars rovers through virtual tours. That shows how machines help in big ways.
Host a Robot‑Themed Movie Night
Pick fun films or documentaries that showcase robots and what they can do. Great picks include features on AI or real‑life rescue bots. That idea comes from suggestions for celebrating with robot‑themed movies.
Code a Robot Dance or Challenge
Set up a friendly robot activity where people program a robot to dance or navigate an obstacle. Robotics platforms like Sphero let users create block‑coding routines that bring robots to life.
Craft DIY Robots from Everyday Materials
Encourage creativity by letting people invent robots using cardboard, craft items, or recyclables. It makes robotics playful and opens up ideas for all ages.
Share Your Robotics Moments Online
Post photos or videos of your robotics celebration on social media. Use a tag like #NationalRoboticsWeek to inspire others. That idea comes from the campaign’s push to share what people are doing.
