National Online Recovery Day
Recovery doesn’t always begin in a room full of people—it can start with a screen and a single click. National Online Recovery Day shines a light on how powerful digital support can be.
Position your digital health platform or recovery service as an accessible, stigma-free alternative to in-person treatment during National Online Recovery Day.
- Share real recovery stories from your community to normalize seeking help online
- Host a free virtual workshop or support group to demonstrate your platform's value and build trust
- Create educational content about barriers to in-person care that online solutions remove (cost, travel, privacy)
- Partner with recovery influencers or advocates to amplify awareness and reach those still hesitant to seek help
National Online Recovery Day started in 2020. Lionrock Recovery, a company offering online care for substance use, launched the idea.
They wanted to bring attention to the growing role of virtual support in addiction recovery. Many people still don’t know that help is available without leaving home. This day works to change that.
The founders chose this path after seeing how hard it was for some to access in-person care. Stigma, travel, cost, and privacy concerns often stop people from getting the support they need.
Online treatment removes many of those barriers. It offers comfort, safety, and flexibility. People can join meetings, get counseling, and connect with others from their own space.
The National Day Calendar made the observance official in July 2020. Since then, it has helped spread the word across the country. Organizations, individuals, and recovery communities use the day to promote digital tools that save lives.
National Online Recovery Day continues to grow. It reflects how care and connection can thrive in digital spaces. It reminds us that recovery support doesn’t have to wait—it’s only a few clicks away.
