National Garage Day began in 2020, created by Garage Condos, LLC. The group wanted to change how people view the garage.
Instead of thinking of it as a dusty storage room or parking spot, they saw it as a place for invention, ideas, and fun. Their goal was simple: give garages the attention they deserve.
Many people forget about the space behind that big door. It collects boxes, tools, and sometimes old furniture. But this day asks everyone to stop and look again. What could that space become? A tiny workshop, art studio, or maybe a workout zone?
As more people got interested, the day picked up steam. Photos of cleaned-up garages, fresh workspaces, and personal projects began to spread online.
Folks started sharing stories about what they’d built or fixed. Some created community events. Others took the day to clean and clear their space.
Garage Condos, LLC helped start the conversation, but now, many take part. They’ve added meaning to something often ignored.
National Garage Day reminds us to use what’s already there in new and exciting ways. It’s not just about space—it’s about purpose. And it all began with one company’s simple idea to look at garages differently.
Transform Your Space
Start by clearing out items you no longer use. Install shelves or hooks to keep tools and equipment off the floor. Add lighting to brighten the area, making it more inviting for various activities.
Host a Neighborhood Sale
Invite neighbors to join in a community garage sale. Set up tables to display items. Use signs to guide visitors, and consider playing soft music to create a pleasant shopping atmosphere.
Create a Hobby Corner
Dedicate a section of your garage to a favorite hobby. Set up a workbench for crafts or repairs. Ensure you have adequate lighting and storage for materials.
Plan a Garage Gathering
Clean the space thoroughly and set up seating for guests. Decorate with string lights or banners to add charm. Prepare simple snacks and drinks to keep everyone refreshed.
Share Your Efforts Online
