History

The National First Day of Peel Season began in 2021. It was created by the esthetician group Enlightened Beauty. Their goal was to draw attention to the safest time of year for chemical peels.

As summer ends and sunlight fades, skin becomes less exposed to strong UV rays. That makes fall an ideal time to treat sun damage, dryness, and dullness.

The group chose an early autumn date to guide clients and professionals into the peel season with care.

Chemical peels themselves have a long history. Ancient Egyptians used ingredients like sour milk to smooth and brighten their skin. In Europe during the Middle Ages, people turned to fruit acids and crushed shells for similar results.

By the 1800s, medical experts in Vienna began using acids in more refined treatments. These older methods helped form today’s advanced techniques.

Enlightened Beauty added a modern twist by naming the day and promoting it widely. Their idea was simple: give people a clear time to focus on deeper skin renewal.

It’s now part of a growing list of skincare observances, including National Peel Day, started by PCA Skin in 2020. Today, estheticians and clients alike mark the season with new routines and brighter skin goals.

How to celebrate

Boost Your Routine

Treat your skin to extra SPF in the days leading up. Layers of protection help your glow last longer. This simple step sets a strong foundation.

Try a Spa Appointment

Schedule a light or medium peel with a licensed esthetician. They help pick a type that fits your skin goals and offer expert aftercare tips.

Host a Skin-Care Chat

Invite friends for a low-key peer talk at home. Share stories and swap favorite aftercare tricks. You’ll learn together and support each other.

Set Up Aftercare Station

Line up gentle cleanser, rich moisturizer, and broad-spectrum sunscreen. These essentials help skin heal and stay soft during cooler days.

Capture the Glow

Take before-and-after photos under soft, natural light. Seeing visible texture or tone improvement makes the effort feel worthwhile.

Plan Fall-Friendly Outings

Keep your skincare sealed in cooler hours. A cozy indoor coffee date or crisp evening walk limits sun exposure while you recover
