The National Day of Puppetry began in 1999. The idea came from Carol Fijan, a puppeteer and teacher who loved the craft. She brought it up during a festival held by the Puppeteers of America, a national group that supports puppet artists.
Her goal was to create one special day each year to celebrate puppetry in all its forms. The group welcomed her idea and officially started the event that same year.
Since then, this day has given people across the country a reason to connect through puppets. Every spring, artists and fans join together for shows, workshops, and hands-on fun. Puppet theaters, libraries, and schools often take part.
