The original celebration of National Cheese Curd Day took place in 2015 when it was started by Culver’s, the fast food restaurant chain based in Wisconsin. The purpose of the day was to improve awareness of the tasty flavor and irresistible snackability found in their fried cheese curds.
Culver’s got its start in Wisconsin with burgers in 1984, but they started serving their famous deep-fried cheese curds in 1997.
By that time, they had expanded outside of Wisconsin and today there are restaurants in at least half of the US states. But they’ve always kept to their Wisconsin roots by helping make cheese curds popular all over the nation!
Even though the origins of National Cheese Curd Day might be fairly recent, cheese curds are a snack that has been around for thousands of years! But while it has ancient roots, this little snack remains relatively unchanged over the centuries.
Today’s version might be found dipped in batter and deep fried, a staple in many pubs or restaurants in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and up through many parts of Canada.
