National American Eskimo Dog Day began as a way to celebrate one of the most charming and clever breeds.
The National American Eskimo Dog Association helped create the day to highlight this dog’s lovable personality and unique look.
That same group had worked since 1970 to promote the breed’s standard with the United Kennel Club. Their efforts brought the breed more attention and led to the day we now use to recognize the Eskie’s special place in many homes.
The breed was first accepted by the United Kennel Club in 1919. At that time, they were already gaining fans thanks to their sharp mind and fluffy white coats.
Years later, in 1985, a group of owners formed the American Eskimo Dog Club of America.
They worked hard to get the breed officially recognized by the American Kennel Club. That recognition finally came in 1995, giving Eskies a stronger presence in the dog world.
This special day grew from that long journey. It honors not only the breed but also the people who stood behind it. Thanks to their effort, the American Eskimo Dog gets the spotlight it deserves.
Now, the day stands as a reminder of the strong bond between dogs and the people who love them.
