History

Museum Advocacy Days began in 2009. The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) started it. They aimed to bring museum professionals and supporters together to advocate for museums. And now, each year, hundreds of participants gather in Washington, D.C.,as well as all over the world just for this purpose.

The idea behind Museum Advocacy Days is to educate and train advocates. These advocates then meet with lawmakers to discuss the importance of museums. As they highlight how museums benefit education, culture, and the economy, this collective effort helps secure the necessary funding and policy support.

Over the years, Museum Advocacy Day has grown in its popularity. It now includes various events, training sessions, and meetings with legislators. These activities ensure that museums’ voices are heard, helping to protect and sustain these vital institutions.
