Loud Shirt Day began in South Australia. It started as a cheerful idea around a coffee table at the Cora Barclay Centre, now known as Can:Do 4Kids.
The team wanted a fun way to help children with hearing loss. They believed that something playful could also be powerful. Wearing bright shirts seemed like the perfect way to spread joy and raise awareness.
The idea took off quickly. It moved beyond one city and found support across Australia and New Zealand.
Today, groups like Hear and Say in Queensland, The Shepherd Centre in New South Wales, and the Southern Cochlear Implant Programme in New Zealand all take part. What began as a local event became a vibrant movement.
Loud Shirt Day invites people to wear their most colorful clothing while supporting a serious cause. Funds raised go toward speech therapy, hearing devices, and early intervention services.
These tools help children learn to listen, speak, and connect with others. For many families, this support changes lives.
The event keeps growing. Each year, more schools, businesses, and communities join the fun. With every loud shirt, someone’s future gets a little brighter.
It’s a simple idea with a huge heart—and it all started with a few people and a good cup of coffee.
Wear the Loudest Shirt You Own
Dig deep into your closet and pick the most eye-catching shirt you can find. Think bold prints, wild colors, or quirky patterns. The louder the look, the bigger the impact. Don’t hold back—this is your excuse to go all out. Share your outfit proudly and inspire others to do the same.
Host a Dress-Up Day at Work or School
Bring everyone together with a colorful twist. Invite your team or classmates to join the fun by wearing their loudest outfits. Offer small prizes for the most outrageous styles. Create a photo wall and snap group shots. A bit of silliness goes a long way in spreading awareness.
