History

La Poutine Week began in 2013. It was founded by Na’eem Adam and Thierry Rassam, who are also known for starting Le Burger Week.

These local entrepreneurs wanted to celebrate the iconic Canadian dish of poutine, which consists of fries, cheese curds, and gravy. Their goal was to create an event where restaurants could showcase unique and creative variations of this beloved meal.

The first event took place in Montreal, with several restaurants participating by offering special poutine dishes. The event quickly gained popularity and expanded beyond Montreal to other Canadian cities.

Each year, more restaurants joined in, and the variety of poutines grew, attracting both locals and tourists. This made the week-long festival an exciting time for poutine lovers across the country.

Nowadays, La Poutine Week is celebrated in cities across Canada. It provides a platform for chefs to experiment and for restaurants to attract new customers.

The event has also become a fun way for people to explore different flavors and vote for their favorite creations. This annual festival not only celebrates a beloved dish but also supports local businesses and fosters a sense of community.

How to celebrate

Indulge in Unique Creations

Visit local restaurants to explore a variety of poutines. Many chefs create special versions just for the week. Each bite offers a new twist on the classic dish. Embrace the adventure and taste as many as possible. Share your favorites on social media and let your friends know where to find the best ones.

Host a Poutine Party

Gather friends and family for a poutine-themed party at home. Create a poutine bar with various toppings. Guests can mix and match to craft their perfect dish. This fun activity guarantees smiles and full bellies. To spice things up, add a contest for the most creative poutine.

Try a Different City

Travel to another city participating in La Poutine Week. Discover how different regions put their spin on poutine. It’s a delicious excuse for a mini-vacation. Every city has unique offerings that highlight local flavors. Expand your poutine horizons beyond your usual haunts.

Vote for Your Favorites

Participate in the voting process for the best poutine. Many events have online platforms where you can rate your favorite creations. Voting supports your top picks and helps them gain recognition. Plus, it adds a bit of friendly competition to the festivities.

Make Your Own

Experiment in the kitchen by making your poutine. Start with the basics: fries, cheese curds, and gravy. Then, get creative with additional toppings and sauces. Share your homemade creation online to inspire others. Cooking at home brings a personal touch to the celebration.
