History

The celebration of King Rama X’s Birthday in Thailand started in 2017 after he became the reigning monarch. It was first held to honor King Maha Vajiralongkorn, who had succeeded his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, to the throne in 2016.

The holiday, marked as a national celebration, replaced the former King’s Birthday on December 5th, which now commemorates the late King Bhumibol’s legacy.

Since its inception, the holiday has become a significant event that brings together the Thai people to express their respect and loyalty to their new King and his contributions to the nation.

This day is filled with public ceremonies and religious rituals that highlight the King’s importance in Thai society. Streets and buildings across the country are adorned with decorations, and people wear yellow, the color symbolizing the day of the King’s birth.

Various acts of charity, cultural performances, and military parades also mark the occasion. These activities reflect the Thai people’s reverence for the monarch and their unity and spirit in celebrating their national identity.
