History

Once upon a time, in 2008, a smart group called Quintessential Careers had a bright idea. They thought, “Why not make a day that gets everyone excited about their jobs?”

And just like that, Job Action Day was born! It pops up on the calendar every first Monday in November. This day isn’t your average, run-of-the-mill occasion. Oh no, it’s a call to action for dreamers, doers, and everyone in between.

The mission was clear: inspire people to think big and not just chase after any job, but one that tickles their fancy and pays the bills, too.

It’s a day that says, “Hey, you! Yes, you! Go find that job that makes you jump out of bed in the morning.” Job Action Day whispers (or shouts) to us to follow our passions, mix a little love into our work, and not settle for the dull and dreary.

Over the years, Job Action Day has become a bit of a legend. It’s not just about finding new work; it’s a day to jazz up your resume, learn something new, and even reconnect with old pals who might know about your dream job.

The idea is to create a splash in your career pond, whether by attending job fairs, volunteering, or even just taking a moment to reflect on your job satisfaction.

It’s a nudge, a push, a gentle shove towards doing something you love. And who doesn’t want a job that’s like a hobby for which they get paid?

How to celebrate

Dream Big Party

Host a “Dream Job Costume Party.” Everyone dresses up for the job they’ve always wanted, no matter how outlandish. It’s a great way to share laughs and maybe even discover hidden aspirations among friends.

Skill Discovery Marathon

Dedicate the day to learning something new. It could be anything from a foreign language to how to play an instrument. The goal is not to become an expert in a day but to have fun exploring new skills.

Creative Resume Revamp

Update your resume with a creative twist. Include a “Dream Achievements” section where you list goals and skills you aspire to achieve. This playful approach can make your resume stand out in a sea of standard formats.

Connect and Reflect

Organize a casual get-together, like a picnic or coffee meet-up, focusing on career aspirations and experiences. It’s an informal way to network and share advice, making connections that could help you navigate your career path with more clarity and fun.
