History

International Firgun Day began in 2014, started by a group called Made in JLM in Jerusalem. This group, made up of local tech leaders and entrepreneurs, wanted to change how people in their community interacted.

They noticed that praise was rare and often held back. So they launched a day that encouraged everyone to share genuine compliments with others—no catch, no gain, just kindness.

The kickoff event was a hackathon where teams created the “Firgunator,” a tool that helped people write thoughtful messages in multiple languages.

The idea quickly gained attention. What started as a local push soon reached people across Israel, then around the world. Friends, coworkers, teachers, and even strangers began sharing kind words in public and online.

Roy Munin and Uriel Shuraki, two of the people behind the project, believed that one person’s success should lift others up, not create distance. Their goal was simple—help kindness spread. And it did.

Now, the day brings people together through small, honest words of support. From busy offices to quiet classrooms, anyone can take part.

All it takes is noticing something good in someone else and saying it out loud. That simple gesture, born in Jerusalem, keeps reaching new hearts every year.

How to celebrate

Send a Genuine Note

Pull out your phone or pen. Send someone a short message praising a recent win. Offer honest delight in their progress. That small expression can brighten their day and strengthen your bond.

Share Accomplishments

Highlight someone’s effort online or in conversation. Say something like, “I admire how you handled that challenge.” That public boost spreads warmth far beyond a single moment.

Speak Up in Meetings

Notice when a coworker shines. Offer praise right after they speak. Your words build confidence and cooperation. Teams grow stronger when we celebrate each other.

Use a Kind Prompt Tool

Try a helper app or website that sparks thoughtful compliments. You can adapt those words to suit your voice. That gentle nudge can help you share a connection with authenticity.

Tag or Thank Publicly

Show appreciation on social channels or group chats. Tag the person and say one specific reason you admire them. That simple act underscores community and care.
