History

This kickoff event takes place on the first day of National Cyber Security Awareness Month each year.

The day was started by the EC-Council in 2020 with the purpose of educating the public about the role that ethical hackers play in protecting digital systems.

In addition, one goal of the event is to more formally recognize the importance of and promote the field of ethical hacking.

EC-Council is a credentialing body that works to train and certify ethical hackers. Their course is also listed as a baseline certification for important bodies like the US Department of Defense as well as in a wide range of other industries.

This important job can help gain customer trust, protect data, prevent security breaches and even defend national security from terrorists.

It’s time to get excited and celebrate International Ethical Hackers Day!

How to celebrate

Learn About Ethical Hackers

Not even sure what an ethical hacker is? That’s okay! This is a great time to do some of your own research and find out more about how people in this field are employed in various organizations! These cybersecurity professionals are trained to identify and correct digital vulnerabilities that might put privacy and security at risk to malicious hackers. Their job is to reach into security layers, notice vulnerabilities, and figure out what kind of harm could be caused by a malicious hacker. Then, they help to mitigate these vulnerabilities. Basically, they learn how to hack – but like a superhero instead of a villain!

Take an Ethical Hacking Course

Those who are interested in working in the field of IT security might want to head on over and check out the offerings from the EC-Council to get trained and certified in this important field. International Ethical Hackers Day is the perfect time to consider a career change and move toward this field. Especially for those who love computers and like the idea of heading off the bad-guy at the pass!

Thank an Ethical Hacker

If you work for a company that has an IT security team, find out who those digital superheroes are and then take some time on this day to thank them! Throw them a party, send a card, bring in cake or come up with some other ways for the company to honor their important work in providing security and protection.
