History

The American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA), is the organization responsible for getting Healthcare HR Week started.

This non-profit organization founded the event in 2012 to recognize the vital role that human resources professionals play in healthcare spaces all across the nation – and even the world!

Highlighting the “heartbeats of healthcare”, this week pays special attention to the humans behind the technology that keeps everything flowing in healthcare systems such as hospitals, medical centers, hospice facilities, long-term care, and more.

Sometimes also called Human Resources in Healthcare Week, this event celebrates themes each year that give a nod to the kind of work that these professionals do.

Some of the related themes from past years include The Irreplaceable Human Connection in 2024 and Strategic Partners for the Healthcare Workforce in 2021.


How to celebrate

Host a Healthcare HR Week Event

Healthcare organizations, medical facilities, and other interested parties can hold events during Healthcare HR Week that show appreciation to all of the folks behind the scenes. Perhaps hold an appreciation luncheon and choose an honorary Healthcare HR Person of the Year to acknowledge. Distribute small tokens of appreciation such as gift cards, snack boxes, care packages, and more.

Sponsor a Healthcare HR Recruitment Event

Those who work in the Human Resources departments of the healthcare industry recognize that there are grave shortages in staffing. In honor of Healthcare HR Week, perhaps this would be a great time for a job fair or recruitment event that specifically targets healthcare workers, including those in the human resources field.
