Hapje Tapje is Leuven's culinary flagship, grown from a street festival into a three-part experience: a bite-size tasting circuit with Leuven restaurants, a beer market with local brewers, and continuous live music performances on the plazas. Since 2026, Hapje Tapje is officially part of Het Groot Verlof, Leuven's overarching summer programme running 10 July–7 August 2026. Known as Belgium's oldest street food festival, Hapje Tapje attracts around 60,000 food lovers each summer. Muntstraat serves as Leuven's gastronomic street, with more than ten restaurants in a row serving small tasting portions from the street. The Oude Markt (Europe's longest bar) functions as the beer and music zone with multiple stages. The world's only bartender race features participants carrying trays of Stella Artois beer through a fixed city course, competing on both speed and balance without spilling. Food and drink portions range between €1 and €4 per portion. The Grote Markt (Town Hall square) serves as the central meeting point with additional stalls and seating areas. No tickets required for festival access; visitors pay per bite or drink at individual vendors.
