This story begins in 2018 when the very first Global Community Engagement Day was celebrated. Picture this: a group called Engage 2 Act, based in the beautiful lands of Australia, had a bright idea.
They wanted to shine a spotlight on the magic that happens when people work together to make their communities better.
The founders of this special day asked their online friends a simple question: who stands out as a pioneer in bringing people together? The best answer came from someone born on January 28th. That’s why it is celebrated on this date. It’s a nod to the idea that anyone, anywhere, can spark a movement that changes the world.
Andrew Coulson, a member of Engage 2 Act, played a key role in making this day a reality. He believed that if we had days to celebrate all sorts of things, why not have one for community engagement? And just like that, a new day was added to our calendars.
It’s a day that reminds us we’re all part of a bigger picture, encouraging us to lend a hand, share ideas, and build stronger communities together. What a wonderful reason to celebrate!
