History

Physical fitness has had a long history of being a defining factor in mankind. From the Roman Empire to today, there have been various developments in what constituted fitness. While the Dark Ages valued the soul over the body, the renaissance period took a fresh start by examining the body for medical research, bringing new methods of awareness about what the body does. It wasn’t until the 1800’s that the idea of fitness became popular. Since then, the United States took fitness to a new level by bringing in 20th-century technology. With the increase in sugars and fats into the diet due to commercialization, the concept of fitness became an everyday term in people’s lives and helped make people more aware of their activity levels and food intake.

Fitness Day as a holiday began in the early 2000’s and has since become a way to improve how people feel, lose weight, and grow stronger as a result. The Fitness Day website hosts events all over the United States yearly in cooperation with companies such as Athleta, Girls on the Run, and Class Pass to help men and women all over the world bring exercise into their daily lives and challenge themselves. Fitness Day hosts these events in major cities and hopes that through these events they have the power to change lives.
