History

Employee Spirit Month was established in 1985 by Mike Kerr, an employee recognition consultant. His goal was to boost employee morale and, in turn, improve business success.

During the early 2000s, media outlets began highlighting Employee Spirit Month, further spreading its importance. In 2012, researchers published studies showing the positive impact of employee recognition programs, validating Kerr’s vision. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 saw companies adapting by celebrating virtually, demonstrating the flexibility and enduring relevance of the month-long event​.
