Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week started in 2011. The U.S. Senate passed Resolution 199 to create this special week. The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation led the effort to establish it.
Their goal was to raise awareness about inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), which include Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
The awareness week takes place annually from December 1 to 7. It aims to educate the public about these chronic conditions and the impact they have on daily life.
By increasing visibility, the initiative seeks to promote better understanding and support for those affected. This includes sharing patient stories, holding educational events, and encouraging fundraising for research.
Since its inception, Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week has grown significantly. It now includes activities worldwide, such as seminars, social media campaigns, and local events.
These efforts help unite the IBD community and bring much-needed attention to these diseases. The week continues to play a crucial role in supporting patients and advancing research towards finding a cure.
