History

As with a few other days that were founded by WellCat, Cook Something Bold and Pungent Day got its start as the brain child of Ruth and Thomas Roy. A couple of decades ago, the Roys set out to establish a variety of quirky days that could be celebrated each month of the year, and this is just one of their many delightful ideas.

The purpose of the day is to recognize that many people are eating a little too much convenience food and it’s time to get back into the kitchen to create some healthy, tasty fare. And along with that notion comes the awareness that many bold or pungent herbs and spices are also very healthy. Since ancient times, the use of ingredients such as garlic, onion, ginger, turmeric, hot peppers and even mustard are not only there to offer flavor, but they also bring about some health benefits.
