The Halse Carnaval is considered Belgium's largest carnival festival, with Halle holding the title "Carnival Capital of Flanders". During the carnival period, Halle becomes one big amusement park with 120 carnival attractions. The carnival tradition dates back to 1403, when it was known as "Sinte Greef", named after a fictional saint. The carnival fair (Carnavalsfoor) is located across five key sites: Stationsplein, Leideplein, along the Leide, Parking 'De Bres' and Possozplein.
