British Columbia Day started in 1974 when Ernie Hall, a member of the Legislative Assembly, proposed the idea.
He wanted to create a holiday to recognize the contributions of people who helped shape the province. The idea was well-received, and the British Columbia Day Act was passed, establishing the holiday on the first Monday in August.
The holiday was created to honor the pioneers who contributed to the development of British Columbia. It recognizes achievements in various fields, such as culture, economy, and community building.
It highlights the province’s diverse cultural heritage and celebrates the efforts and accomplishments of its residents.
